The Information and Data Centre is just that, a retention center for all of the data collected over thirty years. This data is then used as a guide for forest management planning in addition to the procedural development of these plans in relation to sustainable forest management.

. Continuous entry, administration and accessing of data on forests and forest management in the Czech Republic.

. Operation security of digital and analogue forest archive data.

. Provision of uniform source of information on forestry and forest management of the Czech Republic.

. The improvement of services for forest and other government administrations, forest owners as well as improving information for the European Union.

. Simplification of data access acceleration and standardisation with Data Warehouse using web technologies, and establishing and ensuring ?on-line? access.

. Maintaining system access while preserving sufficient data protection against abuse from outside interest groups.

The Information and Data Centre executes the entire administration and provision of analytical and digital data (numerical and graphic) from the central database on forests for the purposes of:

. Elaboration of forest management plans (FMP)

. Elaboration of forest management guidelines (FMG)

. Tracking the effect of activities on forest management (FM) and forest databases

. Fulfilling needs of eligible forest management groups (especially government forest administrations, forest management organizations, forest owners mensurational agencies and others).

The Information and data centre serves as an information centre for the needs of the Forest Management Section of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic (MZe). IDC experts provide data entry advisory services to aid the Ministry of Agriculture's standard format. The administrator operates a register of data usage from data files and regularly publishes information on metadatabase content (information of data saved in central archive) into CAGI ? MetalS system. Due to the immense amount of data, the FMI started to build an easily managed and operated system, called DATA WEREHOUSE, supported by private communication data network - UHULnet.
