PROJEKT   TERRITORY

The Kamchatka penninsula coveredabout 480 000 square kilometres and its population is more than 300 000 inhabitants. This one is situated among 51 and 62 degrees of northern latitude and lies along 160 degree of east longitude. All territory was discovered for Russia by Vladimir Atlasov in the year of 1697. First maps and description of this area were created by Bering expeditions in 18th century. Currently, Kamchatka is one part of Russian Federation.

This region is very rich by natural marvellous landscape, by volcanic activities and by a lot of beauties of undevastated nature. On the other hand, in new geopolitical situation of penninsula opening, this one has a relatively lot of problems with military bases, wild cutting of forest, forest fires and, of course, with natural protection policy realisation. The biggest natural reserve of the whole of the world, under area covering, Kronockiy zapovednik, is here. The biggest hazards for this area are wild cutting, wild fishery, industrialisation, and unamanaged travelling and tourism.

The selection of this territory as the project testing area was not random. The first our actvity on this territory was in the year 1990, where the first contacts were connected by the expeditionChina - Kamchatka 90.This one was realised for new seeding material collectionof coniferous forests from these territories for its transferring to our European very heavy living conditions for forests. From this point of view, the seeding material from volcanic areas, where a lot of ash, sulphur dioxide and other toxics are coming to forests, were previouslycollected. All these activities were created in cooperation between private firm „Ekoflora“ and our Ministry of Agriculture with participation of our experts. This interesting project, or its researching activities, will be finished in this year, but monitoring of this material will be realised continually. From the point of view of this activity, our project can be illustrated as the form of its continuity.
