Half (53.76 %) of the forests in the Czech Republic are owned by the state. The largest area of state forests (44.37 %) is under management of the state enterprise Forests of the Czech Republic (Lesy České republiky). Other state forests are for example military forests, forests of national parks or forests managed by the Office of the President of the Republic in the surroundings of the Lány castle which is a historical summer residence of Czech presidents.
Forests owned by natural persons total 19.12 % and are mainly represented by small forest properties with some 80 % of owners managing forests sized up to 1 ha.
Another significant share of forests (17.19 %) is represented by municipal and urban forests.
The last category are forests managed by other legal persons, which occupy 9.92 %.
